Avnet Promotes Gerry Fay to Chief Logistics and Operations Officer, Replacing Retiring Jim Smith

PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Avnet, Inc., (NYSE:AVT) a leading global technology distributor, today announced Gerry Fay has been promoted to chief global logistics and operations officer, effective July 4, 2011. Fay, a 16-year electronics industry veteran, joined the Avnet team via the Memec acquisition in 2005 and has been a key member of the Avnet Electronics Marketing senior executive team during this time. Concurrent with this promotion, Fay has also been named to the Avnet Executive Board, reporting to President and Chief Operating Officer Rick Hamada.

Fay will assume executive responsibility for Avnet Logistics' global warehousing, semiconductor programming and integration center services, and will continue in his current role, leading Avnet Velocity, Avnet's global supply-chain practice.

Fay will also oversee enterprise risk management and the corporate operational excellence function and resources.

Avnet global logistics operations provide specialized supply-chain and logistics services for all of Avnet's trading partners throughout the global electronic components and IT industries. Avnet's logistics solutions centers ship more than 40,000 line items per day for 300 suppliers and 100,000 customers in 70 countries. Prior to joining Avnet, Fay was the Americas president of electronic component distributor Memec. At Avnet, he was named senior vice president of global strategic accounts for Avnet United and created the Avnet Velocity global supply-chain practice at Avnet Electronics Marketing.

Fay holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and an MBA from the University of Redlands, Redlands, Calif. He serves as an executive board member for the Boys & Girls Club of Metropolitan Phoenix.
