Avnet Technology Solutions Opens Integration Centre in China

Hong Kong -- Avnet Technology Solutions, an operating group of global technology distributor Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), today opened Avnet Technology Solutions (Tianjin) Ltd -- an integration centre designed to support the company's global OEM customers in China. Services provided from this centre, headed by Sophie Li, general manager of Avnet Technology Solutions (Tianjin) Co. Ltd., include system and server integration, the installation of operating system and software applications, engineering, testing services and customised packaging and labelling.

While the overall goal of the new centre, located in Tianjin in northeast China, is to develop local sourcing and procurement capabilities in China, it will also provide design assistance and support to both local and global customers.

The new centre will deliver the same manufacturing and integration services that are currently offered by Avnet Technology Solutions' North American integration centre in Phoenix, Arizona. It also increases the company's global integration and assembly facilities to four, two of which are in the North American states of Arizona and Massachusetts, while the other is in Belgium, Europe.

'The need to support our customers with services that span multiple regions has grown in the last several years as businesses find themselves operating in a more global environment,' said Rick Hamada, chief operating officer Avnet, Inc. 'In addition, demand is increasing for integration services locally in China. Together these factors convinced us that the time is right to open an integration centre that will help a variety of customers deliver solutions to the Chinese market. This is an exciting step in our path toward having a greater presence in the region as we continue to build our capabilities in Asia.'

The new centre will enable Avnet Technology Solutions to support existing North American customers who already have their own operations in China. Many of these are Fortune 200 firms producing medical, networking and communications and industrial automation products. In addition, the centre will drive new business from Chinese OEMs, which are growing rapidly in both the domestic and global markets.

'We see Tianjin as an ideal location for this centre,' said K P Tang, president of Avnet Technology Solutions, Asia Pacific. 'The Tianjin Binhai New Area is fast becoming one of China's economic powerhouses, together with the Pearl River and Yangtze River deltas. We have access to a large, highly qualified and stable workforce in the Tianjin area.

'As our new integration centre in China comes on line, we are confident that our overseas' customers will experience even faster response and shorter lead times, and customers in China will benefit from increased efficiency since there will be fewer challenges, such as language and time differences, to deal with.'
