Avnet Receives BEST Award for Learning and Performance Excellence Worldwide by ASTD

PHOENIX -- Avnet, Inc. (NYSE:AVT), a leading global technology distributor, today announced it has been selected by the American Society for Training & Development (ASTD) for its 2006 BEST Awards Program. Avnet is one of 39 organizations worldwide to receive an ASTD BEST Award. The ASTD BEST Awards recognize organizations that demonstrate enterprise-wide success through employee learning and development.

According to Tony Bingham, ASTD's president and CEO, 'The winners set the standard of excellence for exceptional learning practices and demonstrate that a skilled workforce is vital to achieving results.' Bingham continues, 'The 2006 ASTD BEST Award winners use learning as a strategic tool and have the support of senior leaders who champion a learning culture.'

Avnet was recognized for the development and global roll-out of its Values Initiative. The initiative resulted in an increase in the percentage of employees aware of and committed to the company's core values of integrity, customer service, accountability, teamwork and innovation.

'Avnet's Core Values provide the compass for our employees on how to engage with our customers, suppliers and each other. The ATSD BEST Award validates our belief that investing in learning and communicating with our team members is a wise use of resources that will continue to position us ahead of the industry,' said Steve Church, chief human resources development officer, Avnet, Inc.

Through an online survey, the 2006 BEST Awards welcomed applications from 78 organizations in seven countries. These organizations submitted quantitative and qualitative information to ASTD about their learning and development practices and programs. Their applications were assessed by members of the BEST Awards advisory committee, a group of experts in the learning and performance field. More information about the 2006 ASTD BEST Award winners may be found in the October 2006 issue of Training + Development, ASTD's monthly print magazine.
