Avnet Electronics Marketing Launches New Xilinx SpeedWay Design Workshops(TM) Series

--Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas, the largest operating group of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE:AVT), today announced a new series of SpeedWay Design Workshops(TM) for design engineering professionals interested in using Xilinx FPGAs (Field Programmable Gate Arrays), for embedded processing, serial connectivity, and high performance digital signal processing (DSP). Avnet will begin offering these workshops at locations throughout North America beginning this month, with dates for Europe, Asia and Japan to be announced soon. For complete details about the workshops and to register, please visit www.em.avnet.com/xilinxspeedway

Avnet's SpeedWay Design Workshops offer in-depth technical training based on Avnet field applications engineers' experience implementing breakthrough technology from Xilinx. Using the same format as Avnet's highly successful Spring 2006 SpeedWay series, where more than 3,800 engineers in 30 countries were trained, participating Avnet offices will assemble several days of training by choosing from three workshops:

  • uClinux on MicroBlaze
  • Developing with the Virtex-4 RocketIO Transceivers
  • Xilinx DSP Development

These hands-on workshops are delivered using laptop PCs, Avnet design boards, FPGA development tools, and detailed application labs. Designers will get step-by-step instructions on design practices, tool utilization and code development, allowing designers to immediately apply the skills learned to their current projects. Attendees of the Fall 2006 SpeedWay workshops will be eligible to purchase select Avnet Design Kits at reduced prices, making it easy for them to use in their product development.

'SpeedWay Design Workshops have earned a very strong following in the design community because of the value they deliver to design engineers,' said David Stieg, senior director of distribution marketing at Xilinx. 'SpeedWay uses a lab-based approach that allows customers to experience, first hand, how to incorporate FPGA-based logic, DSP, connectivity, and embedded processing solutions into real designs. For a designer seeking new levels of innovation and performance in their next project, SpeedWay workshops deliver.'

'Avnet is excited to roll out a new round of SpeedWay Workshops for Xilinx,' said Ed Smith, senior vice president of sales for Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas. 'Based on the feedback from our Spring 2006 workshops, the hands-on format helped our customers apply the technology we presented to their designs. This new SpeedWay Series will once again offer engineers and designers valuable information to help speed their time to market.'
